As voters in the U.S. head to the polls to choose their next president, NewsGuard is stepping up its monitoring of the spread of misinformation relating to the candidates and the Nov. 5 vote. As a public service, starting on Oct. 14, NewsGuard is making all new election-related misinformation narratives available for no charge in our 2024 U.S. Election Misinformation Monitoring Center.
NewsGuard launched the 2024 U.S. Election Misinformation Monitoring Center in February 2024, when it was already clear that bad actors both domestically and abroad were pushing false claims to advance their political agendas or attract eyeballs for advertising. Indeed, since late August 2024, after former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris accepted their parties’ nominations, NewsGuard has identified on average approximately six new election-related false claims a week, as well as 316 sites advancing these false narratives.
In the three weeks leading up to the Nov. 5 U.S. election, and for at least three weeks after the vote, NewsGuard will provide members of the public and press with all of our election-related Misinformation Fingerprints published during this timeframe. Misinformation Fingerprints are detailed descriptions of provably false narratives spreading online and the facts debunking the claim, produced by NewsGuard’s analysts using our data tracking tools, often within 24 hours of when the claim begins to circulate.
As new and recycled false claims emerge this fall, we will regularly update this page to reflect the latest myths and trends. NewsGuard will also provide misinformation quizzes on social platforms and in our Reality Check newsletter, challenging readers to distinguish fact from fiction.
Subscribe to Reality Check here to receive Misinformation Fingerprints and quizzes directly in your email inboxes. These resources will also be distributed upon request to schools and educators.

Monitoring Election Misinformation Sources:
To detect new and emerging false claims, NewsGuard’s team monitors publishers that our analysts have determined have a history of repeatedly publishing false or egregiously misleading claims related to elections. To date, our database tracks:
- 963 websites flagged for repeatedly publishing false or egregiously misleading claims about elections
- 793 social media accounts and video channels associated with publishers flagged for repeatedly publishing false or egregiously misleading claims about elections
- 1,283 partisan sites masquerading as politically neutral local news outlets; many of these sites are secretly funded by political organizations without clear disclosure to readers, and adopt innocuous names like “The Philadelphia Leader” or “The Copper Courier.” See NewsGuard’s Nutrition Labels for some of these networks, including States Newsroom, Courier Newsroom, Metric Media, and a Russian disinformation network
